AN INTRODUCTION TO CELTIC FLATPICKING GUITAR

‘An easy approach to learning and playing traditional Celtic melodies (tunes) on guitar’

In this introductory workshop we will be exploring playing the very satisfying and fun guitar style of ‘Celtic Flatpicking Guitar’. Celtic Flatpicking Guitar involves playing the melody of traditional Celtic tunes on the guitar. In this workshop we are going to be in standard tuning and looking at a variety of popular reels, jigs, march’s and air’s, and together we are going to explore an easy approach to flatpicking Celtic melodies on guitar.

Primarily the guitar has been used as an accompaniment instrument in Celtic music providing a rhythmic and harmonic back-up and support for melody players. With the Celtic Flatpicking Guitar style we are now going to join in and take the lead as one of the melody players.

This workshop is aimed at intermediate guitar players (have been playing for 3 or more years and are comfortable with basic lead playing). And also for guitar players at any level who are new to playing Celtic guitar and would love a helpful introduction into playing this beautiful, traditional and fun music.
