I grew up in Fraserburgh in the North-East of Scotland and have been playing the guitar since the age of fourteen. As a self-taught guitarist I began playing guitar by listening and playing along to my favourite Rock and Grunge bands. At the age of seventeen I performed my first gig in a local venue with a Punk/Grunge cover band. Following that, in my early twenties I studied music at Aberdeen College where I experienced my first guitar tutor, obtained a Higher in Music and LCM Grade 5 Theory.
After performing in a number of different bands and as a solo artist I returned to Higher Education in 2013 obtaining an HNC music from Perth College UHI, then a BA (Hons) Applied Music degree from Moray College UHI. Continuing with my studies I have just recently completed a Masters Music Degree with the UHI (MA Music and the Environment), and currently I am developing my work as a Scottish Singer/Songwriter and music educator.
I have had a passion for music since a young age and enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of the guitar through teaching. My musical influences include The John Butler Trio, Dougie Maclean and Newton Faulkner, and some of my favourite guitar players are Jimi Hendrix, Tommy Emmanuel and John Renbourn.
I hold a PVG Scheme Certificate and am fully insured as a tutor. I have been teaching guitar professionally since May 2017. I am happy teaching in a number of styles of music and can teach guitar towards exams, for playing in bands, or just for pure enjoyment. I hold specialisms in ‘Altered Tunings’ and ‘Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar’ – were I have held workshops in the past, and ‘Traditional Music’, ‘Pop/Rock’ and ‘Heavy Metal’.
At present I offer private guitar and stagecraft lessons throughout the week in Edinburgh, and am available to teach online globally via Skype.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
