I grew up in Fraserburgh in the North-East of Scotland and have been playing the guitar since the age of fourteen. As a self-taught guitarist I began playing guitar by listening and playing along to my favourite Rock and Grunge bands. At the age of seventeen I performed my first gig in a local venue with a Punk/Grunge cover band. Following that I studied music at Aberdeen College where I experienced my first guitar tutor, obtained a Higher in Music and LCM Grade 5 Theory.
After performing in a number of different bands and as a solo artist I returned to Higher Education in 2013 obtaining an HNC music from Perth College UHI, then a BA (Hons) Applied Music degree from Moray College UHI. Currently I am studying an MA Music and the Environment degree with UHI and developing my work as a Scottish Singer/Songwriter.
I have had a passion for music since a young age and enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of the guitar through teaching. My musical influences include The John Butler Trio, Dougie Maclean and Newton Faulkner, and some of my favourite guitar players are Jimi Hendrix, Tommy Emmanuel and John Renbourn.
I am a member of the Musician’s Union and hold a PVG Scheme Certificate. I have been teaching guitar professionally since May 2017. I am happy teaching in a number of styles of music and can teach guitar towards exams, for playing in bands, or just for pure enjoyment. I hold specialisms in ‘Altered Tunings’ were I have held workshops in the past, ‘Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar’, ‘Traditional Music’, ‘Pop/Rock’ and ‘Heavy Metal’.
At present I offer private guitar tuition throughout the week in Inverness in the Highlands through my own teaching business Harmony Guitar Tuition. I also offer private guitar tuition on Sundays in Elgin in Morayshire through a friends business Moray Music Lessons.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
