Tuition Biography

Wilson Noble 1 CLR Low-Res

I grew up in Fraserburgh in the North-East of Scotland and have been playing the guitar since the age of fourteen. As a self-taught guitarist I began playing guitar by listening and playing along to my favourite Rock and Grunge bands. At the age of seventeen I performed my first gig in a local venue with a cover band. Following that, in my early twenties I studied music at Aberdeen College where I experienced my first guitar tutor, obtained a Higher in Music and LCM Grade 5 Theory.

After performing in a number of different bands and as a solo artist I returned to Higher Education in 2013 obtaining an HNC music from Perth College UHI, followed by a BA (Hons) Applied Music degree from Moray College UHI. Continuing with my studies I have recently completed a Masters Music Degree with the UHI (MA Music and the Environment), and currently I am developing my work as a Scottish Singer/Songwriter and music educator.

I have had a passion for music and the arts since a young age and enjoy sharing my love and knowledge of the guitar through teaching. My musical influences include The John Butler Trio, Dougie Maclean and Newton Faulkner, and some of my favourite guitar players are Jimi Hendrix, John Doyle, Tommy Emmanuel and John Renbourn.

I have been teaching guitar professionally since May 2017, currently hold a PVG Scheme Certificate, and am fully insured as a tutor. I am happy teaching in a number of styles and genres of music and can teach guitar towards exams, for playing in bands, or just for pure enjoyment. I hold specialisms in ‘Celtic Fingerstyle Guitar’ and ‘Altered Tunings’ – were I have held workshops in the past – ‘Traditional Music’, ‘Pop/Rock’ and ‘Heavy Metal’.

Tuition Feedback

“Wilson has been a valuable member of the Fèis Inbhir Narainn team of tutors over the last 2 years. We found him to be a conscientious and encouraging guitar tutor – one which the pupils fully engaged with. We were really sorry to lose Wilson recently as he has now moved to the Edinburgh area – our loss is Edinburgh’s gain!” Rhona Macdonald – Fèis Inbhir Narainn

“My son Calum enjoyed being taught guitar by Wilson and built up a great tutoring relationship with him. Within a year Calum went from not knowing any chords and was recommended not to take guitar for Nat 5 by his music teacher at school, to gaining an A in music at National 5 level with guitar as one of his instruments. A fantastic achievement considering he hadn’t taken music in 3rd year at high school. Wilson sent me music files every week for Calum to practice, great communication and feedback on progress and invaluable advice for Calum. Highly recommended guitar tutor.” Lisa Thomson (Parent)
