Had a really great time performing at this years XpoNorth festival in Inverness. I performed a two song acoustic set along with an interview for the XpoNorth broadcast channel. You can watch the performance below:
Below are some pictures from my experience of the festival showcasing local and national bands, industry panels, broadcast interviews, and national music projects. It was a really great event – I’d recommend anyone with an interest in the Creative Industries check it out!
A rare time in Stornoway last month at the last residential for the BA Applied Music degree this academic year. It was a special experience as this was the first year of graduates from the new BA applied music course (not me though, I graduate next year!).
As usual with these residentials, a lot happens over the days. For me, my main concern was my guitar/performance assessment and two scheduled performances happening during the week. Along with this, I thoroughly enjoyed all the 4th year performances, the workshops and classes I attended, catching up with all my fellow peers, and all the people I met – not to mention it was my first time on the Isle of Lewis!
Below is a video and some pictures of my time away.

Had a really great time performing at the Connect Finale last month. The concert was held at the Music Hall in Aberdeen, and was the culmination of the ‘Connect’ project for Aberdeen Performing Arts, Associate Artists programme for 2015.
The Connect project was a new initiative from Aberdeen Performing Arts inviting two Nationally recognised artists to be resident artists in Aberdeen venues The Lemon Tree and The Music Hall for 2015. The two artists for the programme were ‘Aidan O’Rourke’ & ‘Jason Singh’ with the programme seeking these artists to collaborate together and with the local community over the course of a year. You can find out more about the project here and here.
Below are some pictures of the journey, for my part from August last year in 2015 until the final concert on March 31st this year.
The evenings final performance consisted of eight different performances, from eight different adaptations and collaborations between the diverse group of twenty musicians, all working with Aiden and Jason for each set, and then finally us all performing together. It was a full house and a succesful concert lasting for two hours at the music hall.
I performed as one of the guitar players with the full band for the last set of the evening. It was a great joy and success to be a part of it all.
Personally as well as performing with the group, I thoroughly enjoyed performing at the music hall in Aberdeen. As well as it being a delight to work with all the staff and venue, this is a venue that has been close to my heart for many years. I’ve actually worked in the Music Hall in two different jobs in the past. The first job back in 2001-2003 as predominantly a barman and occasional usher, and then again in 2006 – 2007 as a stage labourer. I remember thinking back then that I look forward to performing on the stage as well as working all around it.
Thank you everyone for what was a great experience, concert and event.
Enjoyed a fine afternoon guitar workshop with Tony McManus this February 14th at Gartly Community Hall, near Huntly. The afternoon workshop was part of Tonys appearance at the community hall, with his performance happening in the evening.
It was a relatively small gathering of intrigued guitarists wondering what we’d learn from a celtic guitar master. Tony was on form and shared some different tunings that work well with celtic music, some celtic rythyms, a harp like technical exercise, and finished with a slip jig.
It was very pleasant and enjoyable to be around a group of guitarists, all willing to learn and be open to exploration. As well as the harp like exercise in dadgad tuning, I also came away with a nice 6/8 celtic rythym with the accents using downstrokes on beats 1 and 3 of the first triplet.
Really great, Tony put on an excellent show in the evening as well.
The event was put on by the Tin Hut Sessions. I would recommend anyone interested in hearing some good national and international artists in an intimate and simple setting in the North East of Scotland check them out. You can find them at Tin Hut Sessions
Had a really great time in Glasgow at Celtic Connections this year. The people, atmosphere, and support for so much music has been amazing!
I was very happy to be performing at a new event hosted by the festival. ‘Celtic Connections on Campus’, a four day event of afternoon live performances showcasing music students from all over the country. The event was held at Glasgow Caledonian University in association with Audio at GCU and Celtic Music Radio.
I performed a 20 minute live set to a festival audience on the third day of the event on the 21st Jan at 1:30pm. The performance was broadcast live over the radio, 95fm Glasgow, and online at celticmusicradio.net. You can listen back to the days performances on Celtic Music Radio’s catch up programme from their website, and from the direct link here at celtic connections on campus catch up. My set is just over halfway through the recording.
All in all, had a very productive and enjoyable time at a really special Scottish Festival.
looking forward to next year already!
Stay posted for the upcoming release of my new single ‘Heartspace’. Release date to be announced soon!
the single will also be accompanied by a music video showcasing performance photographs & video footage spanning over 10 years.
As part of Aberdeen Performing Arts ‘Connect’ project, I’ll be performing alongside a group of local musicians, Jason Singh & Aidan O’ Rourke at the Aberdeen Music Hall in Aberdeen on March 31st.
