Wilson Noble is a Scottish Singer, Songwriter, Guitarist, and Independent Musician from the North-East of Scotland. He is a self-taught guitarist from the age of fourteen. His cross-genre music blends folk-inspired songwriting and rock influences with Celtic guitar and cultural/conscious themes. His guitar style which incorporates numerous altered guitar tunings lends inspiration from Australian roots artist John Butler and the late English folk guitarist John Renbourn.
Throughout the past twenty years he has lived and worked in the North-East, Central Belt and Highlands of Scotland, all the while soaking up culture, life and inspiration for his music. Wilson, a definite character with a story to tell, brings his unique twist to the human condition and living as a Scottish man. Over the years he has performed at events such as Celtic Connections, XpoNorth, Belladrum Festival, and at venues all around Scotland and the UK, as well as the odd performance abroad (Australia, Singapore, Thailand) as travel and time has allowed.
Currently he manages himself as an Artist through his and his partner’s Independent Record Label ‘Twin Soul Music’, teaches guitar in and around the Highlands of Scotland, and is working on releasing his back catalogue of recorded music involving three original singer-songwriter albums spanning ten years (2004 – 2014). Alongside this Wilson is looking forward to releasing a new E.P. of instrumental Celtic Guitar Fingerstyle music in late Spring, is working on a new series of Guitar Workshops, and regularly posts music, video and updates on his social media.
As a mature student Wilson obtained an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Applied Music in 2017 with the University of the Highlands & Islands (UHI), and is presently studying a Masters of Arts music degree (MA Music and the Environment) with the UHI which aims to be completed in December 2018.
Early influences include the Grunge movement in Seattle and 80’s/90’s American and British Heavy Metal. Later influences include the Singer-Songwriter boom of the 60’s/70’s with artists like Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell lending great inspiration to Wilson’s songwriting and craftsmanship. Followed by influences of Australian folk and roots music which you can hear in Wilson’s guitar playing from listening to and absorbing artists like Xavier Rudd and John Butler whilst travelling in Australia in 2005 during a nine month backpacking experience. More recently, influences, research and study includes Scottish and Irish traditional Celtic music with influential artists including John Doyle, Tony McManus and Martin Simpson.
